Life at work can be wild like fighting for survival. In particularly when you’re surrounded by hostile coworkers. I once was in a position like that. I dreaded every morning walking into that building. Not only were the coworkers running amok but management ran a close second.

Imagine dealing with unprofessional and unruly coworkers, then going to management for help or solution, but time after time again you’re being told to write statements that never reached beyond the paper you wrote it on? Could be a bit stressful right?

However, there’s a way to handle this without losing your cool or compromising your faith. Here’s a really down-to-earth guide on tackling workplace drama, while living a life that pleases God.

Stay grounded in your faith- when the negativity starts to creep in remember to anchor yourself in your faith.(Jesus) Pray for strength and wisdom. Keeping your spiritual life vibrant can serve as your shield against toxic energy.

Healthy boundaries are always a go!-

Don’t let toxic coworkers drain your energy. Setting boundaries is a must. You can politely decline engaging, in gossip or negativity. Let them know your vibe is about positivity in progress!

Respond, Don’t react-

In the heat of the moment, it can be tempting to fire back! Instead take a breath. Responding thoughtfully shows maturity and strength, reflecting your values.

Remember, you are not just representing yourself, you’re a reflection of your faith.

Practice empathy-

Try to understand where your hostile coworkers are coming from. Everyone has battles that we can’t see. You’d be surprised a little kindness can go a long way. Sometimes, all they need is a listening ear or a display of basic human decency.

Lead by example-

Be the beacon of light in your workplace. Show your coworkers what it means to be professional, kind and ethical. Your actions can inspire others and may even soften their harsh demeanor.

Get support-

Don’t go through it alone. Lean on friends, mentors, or support groups. Sharing your experiences can provide fresh perspectives and encouragement, reminding you that you’re not the only one facing this.

Keep the big picture in mind-

Remember your purpose. Why are you at this job? Keep your eyes on your goals and the bigger plan that God has for you. Hostile environments can sometimes serve as test of character and faith.

Know when to keep it moving!-

Sometimes, you might need to assess if this environment is really worth your peace. If the hostility is unmanageable, consider seeking opportunities somewhere else. Your well-being comes first.

In the end…

Dealing with hostile coworkers can be tough, but by anchoring yourself in your faith, setting boundaries, and responding thoughtfully, you can get through even the stormiest workplaces. Remember, your journey is about more than just surviving; it’s about thriving and shining your light in the darkest places. Keep it real, stay strong, and let your faith lead the way.
